In one of the special events in which the arena becomes orange, it was what called "Paint the Hall Orange" game. The attendees put on orange shirts and that gave a splendid environment. After the 2007-08 season, the Illini fans turns orange colors as a customary and the “PTHO” discontinued. When just opened, State Farm Center was an Assembly Hall and later it attracted awareness for the design and building.

The capacity of the arena is about 16,618 seats basketball that could be increased 17,200. And that makes it the largest arena in Illinois and it is preceded by the United Center in the city of Chicago and the Allstate Arena in Rosemont city. A lot of events of the Illinois High School Association have been hosted in the arena. And since 1967, the wrestling tournament was organized in the arena.

Between 1963 and 1995, state finals of boys' basketball contests has been hosted in the arena and between 1978 and 1990, the girls’ games played there. The arena also witnessed the organization of News-Gazette Broadway Series which is a special event for featuring famous musicals including Fiddler on the Roof, Les Misérables, and others. The Assembly Hall had been included in the list of top ten of rare Illinois historic places.
